I just received a Lionel American Fire and Rescue set with a GP 20 diesel engine. To my surprise when I ran it for the first time the engine sounded like a steam engine and it had a steam whistle instead of a diesel horn!! Any ideas what is up??

Video????
Sorry no videos. Don't know how!!

Best guess is the original diesel sound board was replaced with a board with steam sounds . The correct part for the diesel board is 691CSNDPCB, available from Lionel and other parts sources.
Hope this helps!

Heres a video of the set from Trainz. Just to make sure that the sound your getting isn't the way its supposed to be.
(Lionel has had some less than stellar whistle tones over the years. I believe years ago there was a scale pacific steam locomotive that had a "diesel sounding" whistle , and Lionel offered to change the sound chip under warranty.)
Thanks guys!
Rick O. That is not how mine sounds !!
AcelaNYP Thanks for the part number- guess I'll have to order one.
