This is one very cool thread.  I just love all these neat scenes!

Here is another of my favorite vignettes from my layout - unfortunately it is in a hard to see spot in a corner my my layout.  Lucus Doolin was the character Robert Mitchum played in Thunder Road.  On my layout he did not die but used his ill-got gains to open a garage catering to moonshine runners and hot rodders looking for as much extra speed as they have money to buy.

Lucus 1

There is a lot going on in the photo above, including Lucas talking to Phillip Marlow at the left about giving his old Ford coupe some new life, but my favorite part is in the photo below.  There is a Lights4Models welding kit under the green Ford coupe, which flashes a blue LED very realistically.  They are welding on a set of headers, you can see those for the other side of the big Cadillac engine inside sitting on the ground with the glasspack mufflers and other pipes for the care. Those tiny headers were rather a challenge to scratch build, but it is one very cool scene.

My head exploded when I saw this one. I mean, these are all amazing but how on earth did you get the water to look like that!? It's got ripples! The only thing missing is a fish jumping out. . .

Scott..thanks for the compliment.  It took me months to get each ripple in that scene....well, OK....I'll fess up....  The "water" is actually glass that I ordered and had cut to size for the harbor area on the layout.  It is known to many modelers as "shower door glass".  It comes in a variety of patterns, some having more ripples than others.  In my opinion it is a full proof way of modeling large areas of water economically...and my harbor area is includes almost 14 feet of water....I mean glass!

Alan,

I am happy to be of encouragement.  I love to be able to give encouragement.  It is something I am able to give back to all the nice folks on the forum who have helped me in my move from HO to O Gauge 3-rail.  I have been thrilled with this forum and OGR magazine.  As I move forward in the hobby, I want to share what I learn.

Fish stories!

Here are two of our favorite TV detectives, Christopher Foyle (Foyle's War) and George Gently (George Gently).  In their respect series, both love to fly fish, and according to the plot lines, they both working in London in the late 50s.  So . . .

I'm not real serious here.. but "Sarge" is

A stolen bath! Brake man breaking the rules in one of those fancy cast iron tubs on its way to "The Olde In and Out Plumbing Supply"

"I was reaching to drain it, and fell in" he says.

It sits on a siding right near the water tower now. On closer examination, turns out some of this cars id numbers have been sloppily painted over by some "vandal" and it has been "lost" here for over a year.

Jim,

Since the rifles are just sitting there sooner or later you're going to need to add the banditos from Treasure of the Sierra Madre! Surprised they are not there already with the gold sitting out in plain sight like that!

Lee,

while not working in London, Frank Cannon used to fly fish in some of his episodes.  Could he be fishing around the bend?

I like Mama Bear fishing for her cubs.

when I build my next layout, I want to include my dad fly fishing.  He really liked watching Cannon.  He is still an active fly fisherman at age 84, and loves to see photos of the big Mallets that used to run a half mile from our home.
