Hi all ! I'm new to the forum and have a question. First off I have the following set up;

  •  ZW- transformer with three 180 watt bricks - first three openings have there own transformer with a jumper on the last channel ( D ) position.
  • Legacy Cab-2 with ver 1.3

I turned on the Legacy first then the ZW so it would operate in a command environment. I then pushed the button on the ZW that starts the programming sequence. The red and green lights start flashing. I push TR on the handheld remote and select 1 and set. The red light stops flashing and the green stay's constant. There is no audible sound from the remote when i touched one, if i touch other keys there's a sound made? I can then address TR 1, because there's only TR1 and TR2. I power up the track and then address my engine and away we go. I can blow the horn, ring bell drive around the track, uncouple front and rear, lights operate correctly, loco sounds good and responds correctly only no tower talk or crew talk again buttons don't make any noise when pressed ? What M I DOING WRONG!! I've watched multiple u-tube videos, i just figured out the TR power has to be dialed up then the engine can be addressed and operated!! I'm slow but i can't be that bad ??

Fred,

The loco you're running, is it a legacy, TMCC or conventional loco?

I wasn't sure if you were running a TMCC loco but actually running it in conventional mode meaning that you're adjusting track voltage to change speed, etc.

On the ZW-c, once you power up (my legacy base and my ZW-C power up together on the same power strip with no issue.) Track 2 and 3 should be on at the level of power indicated by their levers on the zw.

Track 1 and 4 (A&D) have to be dialed up to their handle's setting using the Legacy remote. Once there, you don't have to touch them again.

Now you can select the "engine" button, enter your loco's id, start it up and should have full command control of that loco.

Any adjustments to to the ZW's levels can be done through the "track" button or right at the handles.

Not sure if that helps.

I think he said the only problem he is having is there is no crew or tower talk when he uses those commands.

Is this problem only with one particular engine or do you have another engine you can try?

If the track powers up with your remote and the engine responds to all but crew and tower talk, thats NOT an issure with your ZW. Could possibly be the remote, but most likely the engine. Try another engine first.

Thanks guy's for the info !! The Loco I was running is Legacy Command Control. It seems that buttons 1,2,3, and 7,8,9, are dead for some reason. That's why when i did the original set-up TR-1 was there by default but it doesn't have the audible indicator that i pushed that number. Already have a R.O. from Lionel. I was watching on U-tube the Lionel channel. It seems to me that the way they where explaining things was you had to address each individual channel. That in a command environment the ZW would have no power output except through the handheld. This was explained as channel 1-4 ? I really didn't want to do that anyway, I like it the way it is where channel 1 position 1 is controlled through the handheld. I leave both inner dials for accessories dialed to 14 volts and leave my a handle at 17 volt's and never bother with moving them.

You cant run the ZW in conventional and command modes at the same time. It's either one or the other. If the ZW is programmed as TR 1-4, then each TR # has to be dialed up individually with your remote. You can move the handles all you want, but if you haven't dialed up the voltage with the remote, there will be NO output on those handles until you do.

If you run the ZW in SUPER ZW, then all 4 outputs are dialed up as TR-1. The entire ZW and all 4 outputs become TR-1. Dial up TR-1 to whatever voltage you desire, and all 4 outputs increase to that level. There's no individual handle control, whatever TR-1 is, thats what they all are.

Otherwise dial up TR-1 and set voltage, TR-2 set voltage, TR-3 set voltage, and TR-4 set voltage. Then you can turn the handles on and off all you want, but the max voltage will be whatever you dialed up with your remote.

That's right ! I didn't try to run anything in both environment's (command control and conventional). Although, when I power up my system the B and C channels power up to whatever is dialed up on the ZW Transformer the A channel is dead no output until I address this channel via the Cab-2 remote and dial up the track power. I thought if you went through the set-up you would have to address each channel including the B & C channels.
