Will a ZW-L operate a PS1 train and access the features the TPC can access? I'd be using my Cab 2 to control the ZW-L. I can't recall if it can.

Can I piggyback on Marty's question....and ask a somewhat related one:
If I'm running a Legacy Cab-1L and matching base, do I still need a TPC to run a PS1 locomotive? If so, is this the same TPC as if I was still running in TMCC?
Please be nice. I'm still slumming it in TMCC and am on the fence about a Cab-1L.
Command systems are command systems and they do not control track power. So the CAB-1L and Base are the same as the TMCC equivalent, just Legacy.
So yes you still need a Power Master or TPC to control track power and generate the Bell and Whistle offset, direction change, vary voltage to track.
Marty, can't answer your question. My ZW-C can control PS-1 no problem and access those functions controlled by the bell whistle buttons. No macros though. G
MartyE,
Can't help you buddy, I do not own a ZW-L Yet! If you have the DCS & Legacy you should not need it at all. Control the P1 Engine with your DCS Hand Held remote control.

Using the ZW-C and ZW-L in command mode you can run and control PS-1 locomotives, I do it all the time with my ZW-C. And yes, you can also program them in the reset state. That is one reason I chose the ZW-C as my power source.

Could you contact "BOB" a little further down on this list who is having trouble setting up (2) TPC 400's on his Layout. His Post is Labeled: Legacy running as Conventional.
Thanks,
Fred
Thanks for the replies, fellas!
And Marty....sorry for the piggyback on your post.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

I remember early on that the discussion was that the ZW-L would include the same macro capability as the TPC and the new Legacy Powermaster for PS/1 & PS/2 stuff. In reading the manual, they don't say a word about it, so I suspect that capability didn't make it into the ZW-L. Both the TPC and the Legacy PowerMaster mention it in their manual.
From the ZW-C manual:
"Programming non-Lionel engines using the CAB-1 Remote Controller
If the voltage is at maximum, pressing the AUX1 key and then the 9 key will cause the voltage to quickly drop to 6-8 volts and then return to normal. Pressing the 9 key again will cause this cycle to repeat. This function simplifies the programming of some non-Lionel locomotives."
Sure it is not as easy as typing in the number you want and pushing go, but it is simple enough I've used it several times to get to reset 40 for lockout. Have you tried it on your ZW-L? I'm curious to know if this feature was removed from the ZW-L.
They don't mention it in the ZW-L manual. This is the whole heading under "Non-Lionel locomotive operation"

I know it's not in the ZW-L manual, which is why I posted to see if it works. The notes about the lighted car aren't in the ZW-C manual, but it works, and it's what I have to do to run PS-1 locomotives with my ZW-C.
