Niles Canyon/Pacific Locomotive Association Restore Project Southern Pacific #1744

I thought I'd share this link to the Southern Pacific #1744 Steam Locomotive restoration project at the Niles Canyon Railway, CA. All the tires were worn significantly on the locomotive, so off they went to the shop for wheel set rebuild and new tires. Pretty impressive process, here's a link to Niles Canyon Railway website with the details of restoring the driver wheel sets. The wheel sets are at the old Southern Pacific steam shops in Sacramento California, just across the tracks from the California State Railroad Museum.
