I have a SD70ACe that seems to pick up the command signal from the legacy base. However, it automatically starts up and increases the RPM sound itself when power is applied to the track. I cannot activate any of the sounds from the cab2 remote, although the horn and bell can be activated from the transformer.

The direction and movement, however, can be controlled like normal from the cab2. Although the cab light doesn’t come on until it moves.

are you sure the switches are turned on for smoke sound check your switch settings!

legacy_control_system.pdf   read the pdf service manual above it will help you figure it out!

If it starts up automatically it's not talking to the remote base did you try deleting the engine and reading to your remote ! Alan

The switches are in the correct position. I started out trying to program it, but it did the same thing.

if it wasn’t talking to the remote base would I still be able to move it using the remote?

I believe it’s been narrowed down to the railsounds board, not receiving the serial data from the RCMC. Since the sounds seem to go straight into conventional, as soon as power is applied to the track. I’ve tried unplugging the connections and plugging them back in but no luck.
