(Another new thread started on the 2012 Wegman’s Set!)
Did you mean that the TENDER is decorated for Wegmans as I don’t see any lettering or decoration on the locomotive in that photo in the link posted by B&O2368? Recall that last year’s locomotive had the “Wegmans” name in large letters across the boiler while the tender was lettered “Pennsylvania” just like the regular cataloged Pennsy Flyer set.
The freight cars are all different than in last year’s set.
But where is the price listed?
Bill
This years engine appears to have the upgraded valve gear. Didn't last years set have the simplified valve gear?
Pete
I spoke to a Wegmens employee and he said the price was $199.99.

Are you sure that’s not last year’s set? A poster to the other thread on here last week said that he saw the 2011 sets for that price and another member posted photos of them clearly showing the same packaging as last year.

Pete:
You’re right. My 2011 set has the simplified valve gear and in looking at the not very clear photo of the 2012 locomotive on the website, I don’t think it has the upgraded gear, either. I used the 2012 R-T-R catalog as a reference as there are 2 good images on page 42 of an 0-8-0 with the upgraded assembly. Also the description of the new engine’s features on the Wegman’s website does not list the upgraded assembly.

Thanks for clearing that up. That’s a good price.
Did anyone on here actually buy the new set yet?
Bill
I was in the Ithaca Wegmans earlier today and took note of the Lionel product they had to offer:
6-30176 Wegmans 2011 set $199.99
*0-8-0 with Wegmans on boiler side and cab number 2011
*Pennsylvania tender
*Super Pasta box car
*Super Yogurt 3-dome tank car
*Organic Farm N5c caboose
6-30203 Wegmans 2012 set $199.99
*0-8-0 with cab number 577
*Wegmans tender
*Love Your Veggies box car
*Yum 'n' Easy 3-dome tank car
*Wegmans N5c caboose
6-36183 separate sale Yum 'n' Easy 3-dome tank car $34.99
6-36184 separate sale Love Your Veggies box car $34.99
6-36695 separate sale Wegmans N5c caboose $34.99
6-12032 4 sections of straight FasTrack, carded $19.99
6-12033 4 sections of curved FasTrack, carded $19.99
The area featuring all of the above was topped by the same cardboard display that 56f100 reported a few posts above, including the 2-4-2 loco attached to the display. The loco and display are from JC Penney's 2010(?) Lionel set offerings. The display has two tiers; the lower tier has an actual 2-4-2 loco, with photos of the rest of the rolling stock from that year's Santa Fe O gauge set "following" the engine. The upper tier had a battery G gauge displayed the same way, with the actual loco attached to the display, followed by photos of that set's rolling stock. The G gauge loco is not part of the display at Wegmans, just the O gauge loco. Anyone know if these displays were returned by JC Penney to Lionel, and Lionel sent them to Wegmans to use; or did Wegmans get them directly from JC Penney?
I just got the 2012 tank car at the Wegman's in somewhat beautiful Largo, MD. Nice graphics on the end of the car. First time I bought LIONEL in a grocery store.
About a week ago, I noticed the Wegman's store in Warrington, PA (for those living in the southeatern portion of PA -- Bucks and Mongomery counties in particular) had several 6-30203 sets for sale, along with a dozen or so separate-sale 6-36183 tank cars. Just an FYI.

My store in Manalapan just started it today.
They have everything talked about here except for the spare track and the N5c Caboose.
And yes, the set is $199.99, twenty dollars more than last year's set.
Another FYI for those in the southeastern portion of PA who are interested in the Wegman's set... I recently noticed lots of Fastrack is now part of the display. First time I have seen that. Definitely much more "merchandising" going on this year, as they've stepped up the displays a bit.

Has anyone on here actually bought the 2012 Wegman’s set? The reason I ask is if someone wanted a “complete” Wegman’s set I would be willing to trade my 2011 Locomotive with “Wegmans” across the boiler for the plain locomotive from the 2012 set. That would create a 5-unit train set with the locomotive, tender and all 3 cars decorated for Wegman’s. I might be talked into parting with my 3 Wegman’s cars from the 2011 set also.
My 2011 set is still in the sealed box so the locomotive and cars haven’t been used.
Bill
Today I checked out the display set at the local Wegman's and the engine's boiler and tender sides both have the Wegman's name in script. No other roadname on the tender.

Jim:
Well that kills that deal! The Wegman's lettering on the 2012 loco must be much smaller than on last year's loco as it doesn’t show in the photo from the link posted earlier in this thread either on the loco drawn on the box or on the actual loco shown through the window on the box. Plus it wasn’t clear from previous posts that the 2012 engine has “Wegmans” on it like last years.
If that’s the case I’ll just keep my set as is in the box.
Thanks,
Bill
I have seen the 2012 set and don't believe the Wegman's name was on the boiler. I only recall it being on the tender.

Some stores still had 2011 sets at some point starting in October. It is possible this was the set spotted or out on display.

Ron:
Yes, that's the way I had interpreted the previous posts and links to photos on the website and that's why I had made that offer to anyone buying a 2012 set.
There seems to be conflicting info being posted. I’m 800 miles away from a Wegman’s store so I can’t check it out myself. Perhaps the one Jim saw on display used the 2011 loco with the tender and cars from the 2012 set to create a “complete Wegman’s” set for display like I was trying to put together for someone through a trade?
Bill

Rob: But the 2012 set had "Pennsylvania" on the tender rather than "Wegmans" which is on the 2012 set tender.
Bill
I saw the new 2012 set at the Abingdon (BelAir) Md store last week. There were extra cars and carded straight and curved track. I didn't see a price, but an employee told me 199.95. This store had sets from last year very late in the year. I'll stop back at the store sometime this weekend and check it out better.
Thanks for the info!

Today I made another visit to the local Wegman's to check out the actual set rather than the display train. The loco's boiler is plain while the tender has WEGMAN'S in script on the side. The store display also features blister packs of Fastrack and Lemax buildings; including a Wegman's store. Interesting the display train's engine seemed to have a stripped gear and would not move. Could it be from too many laps or grabby hands even though there was a DO NOT TOUCH sign present? Price $199.95.

Jim:
Thanks for going back to verify. So the engine does not have the Wegman’s name on the boiler like last years which is what I had assumed from the previous posts and there are no Wegman’s markings anywhere else on the engine. If that’s the case my trade offer described in my earlier post is back on to anyone who has purchased the 2012 set and wants a locomotive decorated for Wegman’s.
