Just went to my local Menard's to buy a $3.39 pine board. While going through the checkout, three O-gauge freight cars accidentally went through with it.
Don't ya' just hate it when that happens?

Now you know why I go to Lowes, can't afford to shop at Menard's!
Shame on Menards for taking advantage of defenseless train addicts simply out shopping for household necessities to keep a roof over their heads during the cold winter!!!

That is called a Loss Leader. Grocery stores learned a long time ago if you get a family in the door to buy one item(even if sold at a per item loss) they more than likely will buy something not on their shopping list. Someone finally described what their train department is designed to do. John in Lansing, ILL
So sorry for your loss..... it happens to me all the time...
Now what if you need another board?

That, and the gas to get from Southeastern PA to the nearest Menard's in Ohio is a killer!
Becomes one very expensive (and time consuming!) boxcar!

Menards would be smart to scatter a few train items around here and there in the lumber, tools, plumbing, electrical, fasteners, paint, etc. departments, along with a sign giving the location of their main train aisle.
Photos of the stowaways!!!
This has to bring a "knowing" smile to everyone here!!!! I can't believe he "escaped" that cheap?

Aw shucks, 'twasn't nuthin' that hasn't been seen before.....................
A 1946 Chevy (or GMC) REA panel truck on an REA flat car, A 1946 Chevy (or GMC) military ambulance on a U.S. Army flat car, and a black Erie Lackawanna coal hopper.
But at least it's 11% rebate week!
Yup, I bought a $120 barbecue brush there once..... I feel your pain, but what could I do - they'd stocked up for Christmas!
One time I bought some wire for $50
I had one of the Erie Lackawanna hoppers sneak in with a couple snow shovels. Almost ended up with another when I returned one shovel!

If it's a board for a modern train it probably won't be available. At least boards in the lumbar department aren't orphaned into obsolescence.

This is why it’s probably a good thing I don’t have a Menards in my area. 🙄
Can you imagine that Scott must have a security detail assigned to him by his wife if he went shopping there!
Well it could be worse. You could get home only for the wife to say. Those train items look really nice dear. But where is the board you went for? Oops senior moment…
In November I stopped at Two different Menards to get cars for my grandson, The 1st Menards was only 280 miles from my house and the other store was 475 miles from my house (both stores were within my 500 mile drive limit that I set for myself on model train shows). In between the two stores I did attend the Dodge City Kansas train show for 2 days)
P.S. I have no driving limit on real trains and vacation to see trains.
Thanks for the great laugh, MIXED FREIGHT. I'll bet you drove by a Lowe's and Home Depot, though, to go buy that board.
No Menards here in Tampa but if they were I would be shopping there lol.
I drove 158 miles to the Menards in Wichita KS. last month to get some insulation that was on sale for $7.00 a roll of R-13 bought 5 rolls, they had there Christmas stuff up and there train items, it cost me more that $300.00 to get out of that place. Great place to spend money.

Why, yes I did.
How'd you know, LOL!!!

My wife calls those kind of stores $100.00 Stores. She says every time I go to HD a $100.00 is always deducted from the checking account. I'm sure glad they don't sell trains.
I had a friend that went out one day to buy a pair of shoes, his downfall was going by a Chevy dealer and came home with a new Corvette but no shoes.
MTH, ATLAS, LIONEL there is a lessen to be learned here... open up as big box stores and sell more trains.
