Here is my 3rd Rail ATSF Northern in its display case at work - I can look up from right here at my desk and see my favorite locomotive whenever I want.  The acrylic case was "semi-custom" made by a company named Brickner (casesforcollectibles.com - semi-custom means you can order basically any size case because their website has a selection of several hundred variations in size. It was manufactured to order but quite reasonable, about $100 including shipping, and took only eight days from order to arrival.  Anyway, I neolubed the shiny parts including the machined surfaces on the wheels and 2929 looks absolutely lovely here.  I am very proud of it, and have already received several complements from colleagues here. I tell people the figure alongside it, put there to give a sense of how big this monster was, is supposed to be me.

Yes. And I lovely shelf queen it is!  I run conventional and this, like some other TMCC locos I have, runs rather poorly in conventional compared to Legacy that I am used to now: it jackrabbits a bit when starting and does not have the finest slow-speed control.  On the other hand it is stunningly detailed and beautiful to look at.  Just about everyone who comes to my office likes it and is impressed with the detail.  I love having it there and certainly don't regret buying it.

A couple of weeks back I converted a scale 1990s MTH PS1 2921 Northern to Legacy.  It does not have detail of 3rd Rai'sl 2929 but it looks good and frankly what detail t lacks is completely lost when a loco rushes by at a scale 40 mph.  I is my "runner" and this is my "looker."
