Just thought I'd share a few shots of what is now my most prized train. It was initially listed on the FS Board in January and it has been a LONG wait to get them home and on the track. I held out for a York pickup to avoid what would have been a tremendous shipping cost and possibly dangerous handling, so three months there. Then another month after the show to pick them up from my residence in NY during a different trip (couldn't fly it back the first time, drove this time). It was worth the wait, the train is beautiful and borders on being a tail chaser on my dismantled 8' x 16' layout.

If I remember correctly that observation is a "Tavern Lounge" type of car. Thus that door on the side is placed there to load supplies into the "tavern" portion of the car, similar to the side doors on dinning/kitchen cars.

I was reading Ranks and Kratville's "The Union Pacific Streamliners" last night and came across this feature in a chapter entitled; Food Service Cars, Club, and Lounge Cars. Considering the volumes of provisions required, it's hard to believe this was an innovation in 1949. How easily we forget how labor intensive passenger service was, even so recently. By the way, this book is a fascinating read and a great source.

Indeed, their first run of EMD E7s. In my pre-purchase research I noticed some complaints about the gray paint having a green tint and the stripes being aluminum silver instead of bright white. These may indeed be errors, but to me personally it gives the realistic appearance of a train with some miles on it.
