Cannot find com3 port. TIU REV-L. Tried several times. Using an A-B USB cable for connection to computer along with the mini to mini jumper cable to mic and audio ports. After some research, tried two older loader programs to upgrade cable as recommended by MTH's web site but to no avail. This is a printer cable so perhaps that's causing the problem. Using window 10-64 bit operating system. I thought this was going to be a straight forward exercise.

The cable sounds like it's correct.
Before doing anything else, read the following.
Make sure that the jumper cable is a stereo cable and that you insert it before powering up the TIU. Note that connecting the USB cable supplies the TIU with enough power to do the upgrade.
Do the following:
- Remove all cables fro the TIU
- Connect only the USB cable and wait a few seconds until the TIU's red LED stops blinking and comes on solid
- Click on the OPTIONS tab at the top of the Loader Program's screen and select SEARCH FOR TIU
- Press Start
If the TIU is not found, there's most likely an issue with your computer/Windows.
If the TIU is found, proceed as follows:
- Disconnect everything from the TIU
- Plug in a stereo 1/8" cable between the TIU's ProtoCast and ProtoDispatch ports
- Connect the USB cable and ensure that the red LED comes on steady right away without any blinking first
- Click on the icon to upgrade TIU software and press START.
If all goes well, disconnect the jumper cable and the USB cable
- Connect the TIU to the remote with a4-conductor telephone handset cable
- Connect the USB cable
- Click on the icon to upgrade the remote software
- Press START.

The first version L I upgraded the loader found it fast on com port three. I connected the second version L for upgrading, and the loader kept looking for it on com 5? I kept getting messages that it was having a hard time finding it on 5?
I finally cycled the tiu power and rebooted the loader. It found it eventually on com port 6.???
All this time the end of the USB cable stayed in the same com port. So it seems that something kept upping the com port number sequentially. How it found it on 6, I'm not sure. I used to think that front port was com 2???
It took several times and struggled on each. I don't look back when something finally works.
The changing com ports is a Windows driver issue not the TIU. This is normal so it is best to do a com port search each time you try to connect to the TIU.
Barry, et al. Thanks very much for your help. Was finally able to upgrade both the TIU and remote and I'm very much looking forward with anticipation to working with the WiFi app and module due shortly. And yes, Barry I had already taken ownership of your 3rd edition before tackling the upgrades but one must learn to pay greater attention to the written instructions. But this octogenarian was determined to get it done and in the process I felt like I learned something. BTW, the TIU and remote, were spares so now I will have to get back to work and upgrade the TIU and remote on my layout!!
I'm running on windows 10 and it wont find the com port until I remove the MTH mini to mini cable
Greg,

If you're doing a TIU Search, that's normal. The TIU must be powered on with the cable not plugged in when doing a search.
That's not new with Loader Program 5.0, rather, that's the way its always worked.
