I have been trying to upgrade the remote and TIU to 6.0 but keep getting a message from the loader program that it "is having a hard time finding a TIU connected.

- I am running Windows 10

- Loader version is 5.0

-TIU is the USB model and has V 5.0

- Have downloaded the latest MTH drivers

- I have rebooted the tablet.

- I have the stereo cable connected to Proto Cast to Proto Dispatch.

- I am using a usb cable connection to PC.

-  I have used these same cables when upgraded to V 5.0 and it worked well.

- When I run the option to send code to TIU, I select the 6.0 download file.   The screen says it is "searching forTIU on Com 3".  After a minute it comes back and says "Program is having a hard time finding a TIU connected".

However, when I go to the options tab and select auto find TIU it immediately comes back to say it found the TIU on Com 3.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Ed

The cable sounds like it's correct.

Before doing anything else, read the following.

Make sure that the jumper cable is a stereo cable and that you insert it before powering up the TIU. Note that connecting the USB cable supplies the TIU with enough power to do the upgrade.

Do the following:

  • Remove all cables fro the TIU
  • Connect only the USB cable and wait a few seconds until the TIU's red LED stops blinking and comes on solid
  • Click on the OPTIONS tab at the top of the Loader Program's screen and select SEARCH FOR TIU
  • Press Start

If the TIU is not found, there's most likely an issue with your computer/Windows.

If the TIU is found, proceed as follows:

  • Disconnect everything from the TIU
  • Plug in a stereo 1/8" cable between the TIU's ProtoCast and ProtoDispatch ports
  • Connect the USB cable and ensure that the red LED comes on steady right away without any blinking first
  • Click on the icon to upgrade TIU software and press START.

If all goes well, disconnect the jumper cable and the USB cable

  • Connect the TIU to the remote with a4-conductor telephone handset cable
  • Connect the USB cable
  • Click on the icon to upgrade the remote software
  • Press START.

This and a whole lot more is all inMTH’s “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition", available for purchase from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

When everything is powered on is the USB device being recognized? Check your Windows device manager, and look for any expanded section that has a USB device with a yellow exclamation mark. If you have a failed to start USB device then I would try reinstalling the drivers.

If it all looks good then try shutting down the DCS loader, unplug the USB cable, and turn off the TIU. Now launch the DCS loader again, power on the TIU, and plug the USB into your computer (you should hear the windows new hardware sound). Try doing the update now.

I got a message on my oldest computer about missing something file something when it was done loading 6.0 into an old TIU with serial connection.

I know I had updated that older machine years ago with the files on the MTH site. That TIU seems to be updated to DCS 6.0 now and is working with a quick test.

I have a feeling that there's many old Window versions that are becoming obsolete. I will use that old machine until it quits.

I tried to use a serial adapter and my second oldest computer could not find that TIU. I believe that the computer is missing the right stuff to use the cable???

Somedays, I just get lucky and I don't really know what I did!

You know, I'll pay for it later....

Folks,

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who offered suggestions to help me.

I am embarrassed to say that I was using the wrong cable for the proto cast connection.  I thought it was a stereo cable but it was not.  Found the correct cable and tried loading 6.0  and it worked perfectly.

I am sorry to have wasted your time on my mistake and I do apologize.

Thank you for your help,

Ed
