Hello All,

Recently purchased 2 old (Lionel 6-153) block signals at a garage sale. Tried to hook them up. It looks like there is some sort of a damaged resister(?) on the bottom.  As usual no Lionel wiring diagram is available. What kind of replacement bulbs go in them? I can only find 6 Volt colored bulbs online. Only colored bulbs are the ones for switch controllers and they are too big. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The early 153s with the resistor take a 6-8 volt screw base bulb. In 1950 they switched to a 14 volt bayonet base. The bulb numbers you are looking for are 50-301 red and 50-302 green. If you can’t find those, you could get 50-300 clear bulbs and use Tamiya acrylic  transparent glass paint in red and green.

I thought that I had collected almost all of the signal accessories. I'm not familiar with a Lionel catalog number 6-153. I searched and couldn't find any reference to it. Can you provide a photo or more info?

Arthur: The correct postwar catalog number is 153 without the "6-" prefix.  When they changed them and  eliminated the resistor they were still numbered 153.  Hth,
