6-153 Block signal

The early 153s with the resistor take a 6-8 volt screw base bulb. In 1950 they switched to a 14 volt bayonet base. The bulb numbers you are looking for are 50-301 red and 50-302 green. If you can’t find those, you could get 50-300 clear bulbs and use Tamiya acrylic  transparent glass paint in red and green.

I thought that I had collected almost all of the signal accessories. I'm not familiar with a Lionel catalog number 6-153. I searched and couldn't find any reference to it. Can you provide a photo or more info?

Thanks for all of the replies regarding the block signals. Each of the items has a damaged broken unusable resister in the bottom. Where can I find a replacement. There are no markings or color code. It looks like the original part. The 6-8 volt bulbs burn out without the resistor.

I’m sorry I misunderstood your original question. The resistor is part 153-17. I think S&W Parts Supply has them.

why bother with that resistor and bulbs?

replace the bulbs with LEDs, diodes and a resistors.

Lionel took out the resister in the later models and used 18V bulbs.  Town & Country Hobbies has bulbs for these units that are LED with a resister built into the base of the bulb for 18V.  Of course it depends on how you power them, they do not have to run from track power

Arthur: The correct postwar catalog number is 153 without the "6-" prefix.  When they changed them and  eliminated the resistor they were still numbered 153.  Hth,
