In another topic I posted pictures of a homemade auxiliary tender,

and got feedback about closing the gap and matching color and font on the lettering.  I closed up the gap but seriously damaged my paint job trying to remove the old decals.  Since I was starting all over I figured I'd add 6-wheel trucks in place of the 4-wheel trucks.  I got this pair of Walthers Buckeye trucks that match the ones on the tender.

Well of course the truck mounting hole won't line up with the holes in the chassis so I'll have to drill new holes but my problem is couplers.  They'll need to be 3' if they mount through the same holes.  Does anyone have any ideas which couplers may work?  The wheels are also made out of Tenite.  Looks like dark gray plastic.  Will they cause any problems?

Pat the loco is a MTH Rail King Y6B and the auxiliary tender was made out of a Lionel Whistling tender that gave it's chassis and air whistle to a starter set 4-4-2.  I was searching eBay and Trainz for coupler arms but I would need a 3" length.

I think I'll also have to use some spacers between the trucks and the chassis so the Buckeyes clear the sides of the frame.

Thanks for the help Pat.  I never thought to check MTH or Lionel for that matter.  I searched ebay just looking for some inexpensive 6 wheel trucks.  When I saw the Walthers for $23 for the pay and they were actually the same type of truck I was like "Okay.  I should be able to find a coupler"  Another quick project turning into a much bigger deal.

Big Jim, I was thinking the same thing once I took them out of the box.  I'm thinking I may just stick with the 4 wheel trucks that it's got.  I'm beginning to feel like this whole thing was just too ambitious.  I may just put the decals on it and be done with it.  I'm away for two weeks and will re-visit it when I get home.  Another project that I thought would be quick that I've turned into something I can't seem to complete the way I would like.  I think it's just about time to throw a loop of track on a table and watch trains run in circles the way they were made.
