Just finished totally rebuilding a '46 671. Completely rebuilt drive train including cleaning and lubricating all gears . Everything else also ismclean and lubricated. Engine runs quietly and smoothly  in forward. In reverse however there is noise like something is not lubricated. Can't figure out whats casing it  See videos forward running and in then reverse running

Possible problem.

The armature moves back and forth based on the direction the engine is moving. Refer to diagram below from Olsen's CD.

1946 671 Motor Thrust Bearings

In one direction, Direction A, the armature moves in the direction indicated by the red arrow, and depends on the Thrust Washer for smooth operation. In the other direction, Direction B, the armature moves in the direction indicated by the green arrow, and depends on the Brushes for smooth operation. Sorry, but I can not relate Direction A and Direction B with engine direction of travel.

So my first thoughts are that the Thrust Washer is missing or need to get some Lube, OR the brushes are not adjusted properly.

Hope this helps and I am not putting you on a wild goose chase!

I took everthing down to drive shaft and gears and ran it up on my test track. So as I was watching I noticed motor base moving a little. Well would you know it when held it down, the noise stop because the gears weren't fully engaging and were chirping along when in reverse. Both screws weren't down all the way Once I tighten them fully all that bad noise stopped. I obviously was somewhat careless when I was reassembling that component  Lesson learned!!
