Would the shell of of the 'LIONEL LINES' tender (issued with the 2005 semi-scale #6-38096 Post War Celebration Hudson 773) swap-out with the 'NEW YORK CENTRAL' (issued with the 1990 full-scale #6-18005 Collector Line Hudson5340)?

Pretty sure all of the 773 engines came with the shorter 2426 size tenders or the oddball Vanderbilt.

I would tend to agree with you, Pete, on this issue. But pictures I've seen of the #6-38096 (773) show what appears to be a 700T/700W type tender. 2005 Catalogue image is not conclusive, but other photos I found suggest it is NOT a 2426 type.

You may be right. I am not familiar with all the variations. I know some of the Williams 773 size engine came with scale tenders.

Assuming, then, that the shells can swap out, is the LIONEL LINES stamped shell available as just a part? IF so, what is the part number and how best to order one?
Is the 700W tender a fancier version of the 2426-style, or is it also bigger? I have modern-era versions of both, the first coming with my Vision Line 700E (6-11209) in New York Central livery, the second with my 6-18053 Century Club Berkshire (#726) which has Lionel Lines on the side. I thought I'd heard that they're the same shell under the decorations, although you can see from the photos below that it's probably not the case.
This NYC is a modern era equivalent (6911209T01), which appears to be built on the 700 chassis and form factor.
This LL is also a modern era equivalent (6918053T01), which appears to be built on the 2426 chassis and form factor.
The problem may be finding just a tender shell. If you want Lionel Lines and not New York Central the 18053 tender shell would work, assuming that they're the same size, but alas lionelsupport.com shows them to be unavailable.
It's time to try other sources.

If you have a 700w size tender now with NYC and want to change it to Lionel Lines your best bet is remove the lettering and get either decals, dry transfers, or a rubber stamp. All types are available.

I’d agree with Pete, ….easy to reletter it ….it doesn’t require a full repaint to achieve this …
