Can someone please indicate where those bandit meets are...Ive seen comments that there are 3 to 4 somewhere around York

Eddie G is correct.  Here are the locations' addresses:

Four Points Sheraton, 1650 Toronita St, York, PA 17402   (behind the Round The Clock Diner)
Monday & Tuesday, 8 AM – 5 PM;  Wednesday, 8 AM – 2 PM

Wyndham Garden at West Manchester Mall north of Route 30 on Carlisle Road at 2000 Loucks Road, York PA  (this meet is indoor and outdoor, and outdoor vendors may set up a little later than 8 am on Tuesday & Wednesday, depending on the weather and the vendor)
Monday 10 AM – 6 PM;  Tuesday 8 AM - 6 PM; Wednesday, 8 AM – 5 PM

Reliance Fire Hall / West York Fire Hall Meet:  1341 West Market St, York, PA  (this used to be primarily S scale, but now is a mix like the others)
Monday - Wednesday, 9 AM – 5 PM

And of course, now the Purple Hall Meet on the fairgrounds
Monday 10 AM – 4 PM;  Tuesday 8 AM - 4 PM; Wednesday, 8 AM – Noon

The meet times for the first 3 are from the Spring edition of Clem's Primer.  When the Fall edition is published, double check to see if there are any changes.

It should be noted that the bandit meets are effectively over long before the posted closing time on the last day.  If you go to the Wyndham after around 1pm on Wednesday, it will be a ghost town.  You might be able to score a deal at that time, but you'll miss seeing a lot of stuff.

Hopefully they're right this time. I know there have been a couple of times recently where they were incorrect. I think that this was due to cancellations and such though.

Dave:

Funny you mention that. When the charts were initially posted a few days ago, they were incorrect. While they indicated they were for the October 2023 Meet, it was clear to me that they were inaccurate, as there were several vendors missing that I knew were attending the Meet. Additionally, they appeared to be exactly the same as the April 2023 Meet charts.

The Eastern Division then corrected them, and the current charts posted are now accurate. Of course, there could always be last minute cancellations or other vendors added who sign up late.

I learned today that the Holiday Inn Express & Suites York on Leader Heights Road is no longer a Holiday Inn property. For those of you who have York reservations at this property, like I did, I also found out the following:

1. Your reservation will be honored

2. The property is under construction

3. You will not receive IHG/Holiday Inn points for your stay

4. There may or may not be a hot breakfast available; if not they will have grab and go

I notified the IHG national office. They were not aware of this change, but called the property and verified the accuracy of my report. Since the property is no longer associated with IHG, I was told by the IHG representative I spoke to that your reservation at this property may disappear from the IHG/Holiday Inn website, potentially as early as later today.

Finally, I recommended that IHG notify all customers who have reservations at this property of this change ASAP. Whether they do so remains to be seen.

Even though I'm not staying there, thanks for the excellent information.  This kind of thing is rarely good news, but at least people can be prepared.  My suggestions, from having been in a similar situation... if possible, book elsewhere and then cancel the former Holiday Inn reservation.  If not possible to book elsewhere, print a copy of your reservation to prove dates and rates, and check in early - construction may mean that there is a limited number of rooms available.

BTW, I checked a couple of days ago, and some places in and around York still had some rooms available.

I'm hoping for the best for everyone who is affected by this - it really sucks to find out at the last minute, especially during a time of high demand.

That's exactly what I did. There were two rooms still available at the other Holiday Inn Express in York. I grabbed one of them.

The Wyndham garden is still the best hotel and most conviant to the fairgrounds, and the bandit shows. I have been staying there 30 years and get a very low rate for 6 nights.

The Wyndham is not the best hotel.  That place needs a major investment.  It's tired.  It's the closest to the fairgrounds but that's relatively meaningless.  It's not like any of the hotels are walking distance.  If you have to drive over to the fairgrounds anyway, then what advantage is it that the Wyndham is a couple hundred yards closer than any of the hotels on 30?  It's got a bar.  I'll give you that.  The breakfast is a joke.

Weather forecast hasn't improved much.

John, I've had enough of rain. A whole month of weekend rain here in NJ. The grass has not been able to be cut since then. All outside work has been trashed as well. I was hoping this weekend would be different, but alas not to be. I wonder if when I get home next Saturday if there will be no rain here? I'm not going to hold my breath or believe the forecast until I get home next weekend.

Hanging out in my basement, getting things ready for the trip. Ran my trains for a while, to help psych me up. Even cleaned up my car, to make my time in it more pleasant. I’ve been so shut down these last few years, I just can’t wait to get back to doing something I enjoy.

Someday, I hope to do the whole week, but for now I will get there Thursday morning. All ready to go.
