and it rained lightly as we were crossing the Walt Whitman bridge
Brian,

It was not rain, it was all those Eagles fans crying as they lost their perfect record 5-0 to the NY Jets early tonight!
See you at York!

Ted, you could be right. Losing a game to Zack Wilson and the Jets would make anyone cry!  That’s okay, we’ll see you in the playo…. Oh, wait…

John, I've had enough of rain. A whole month of weekend rain here in NJ.  <snip>

Send it our way please! We'll take that surplus down here in eastern OK/western AR!

It dried up in late August and we've had zero meaningful rains since. Our creeks are pathetic and the dirt forest roads are like talcum powder. Wild Child the wife and I had to ride our street legal dirt bikes on paved back roads out in the Ozarks yesterday to avoid the choking dust.

SO, feel free to forward all your surplus rain our way. It will be much appreciated.

(Glad you guys are enjoying York. I've never been. Doubt I ever will. However, it's fun to read about it and share your experiences vicariously. Also fun to view the pictures.)

I'll have to talk with Mother Nature and see if I can charm her again. Asked for a white Christmas ages ago, got it, haven't asked for anything since from her.

I don't know if many train folks stay at the Days Inn anymore, and I doubt that many of us stay at the low-end hotels, but I just saw an article about crime problems at the hotels around the US30/I-83 interchange - https://local21news.com/news/l...n-york-co-motel-zone

Drove past the Super 8 today - saw what looked like a huge broken window.  Used to be a decent place.  Such a shame.

Please keep this in mind when booking a room for the meet.

Thanks for the update. I noticed the Days Inn has cheaper rates recently and been considering those other low budget options as the rates of other hotels has sky rocketed. By next York, hotels have doubled in price in 18-24 months.

The place I stayed at last April had raised its rates for this October by nearly 50%  when I checked in May. I thought, forget about it. Checking month by month the rate for the same room dropped steadily. When I booked a few weeks ago it was 10% lower than April. Go figure. Patience pays off.

That's similar to my strategy - I book far in advance so I'm guaranteed to have a room, then keep checking regularly.  Not scoring as often as I would a few years ago, but I occasionally find a better place and/or a lower rate.

I've noticed that the problems seem to increase with the number of long-term residents.  The last time I stayed at Days Inn (6 or 7 years ago), I saw the school bus stopping to pick up several kids at the lobby - that's a huge red flag.  I've been staying at LaQuinta for a few years - last time I noticed a couple of longer term residents, and the Best Western across the street appeared to have several - hoping this isn't the start of a trend.

Used to enjoy staying at the Wyndham - convenient and secluded location, bandit meet, and on-site bar/restaurant, but their rates have gone through the roof since Covid and the free breakfast no longer includes hot food.
