When the grand kids run Thomas or Percy on the home layout if not traveling very fast the short wheel base has the power dropping out and engines stalling when going over wide radius long turnouts/switches. Also at train shows when I have 14 or so LionChief trains running for 12 hour days with the kids controlling the trains from my LionChief controls on the fence (see my photos and post re this link below), occasionally the odd engine will find a dead spot despite wiring up trailing freight cars with additional power pickup. Most of my LionChief trains at shows run around 6-8 volts anyways. I was wondering about installing the MTH 8.4 volt rectangle rechargeable batteries, (same size as a regular 9 volt) to keep them alive if the train hits a dead section of track? These small batteries should fit in the cab easily and would just keep power alive so when a kid stops a train and it sits on a dead section of track there should be enough battery power to get the train to move an inch to live section of track? Any thoughts?

My post on kids running lots of LionChief engines at shows!;
