We have a American Flyer model 565 I believe pre war, just inherited from my wife's grand father.

When I took it out of the box the power wires were connected to the 19v dc on the transformer(does not look original) and the connector that attaches to the track , with the positive connecting to the center rail.

It seems to operate fine, speed control ,  forward and reverse (thanks to our earlier post responses on how to operate the lever on top of the engine).

As I did more research it seems the correct connections should be to the a/c terminals on the transformer.

Leave as is or would connecting to the a/c be correct.

I took it apart for cleaning and lube and noticed a newer wire (vinyl coated as compared to cloth) running from one of the brushes to the front.

I don't know if this was a modification or just a prior repair
