I had a young  man ( 5 years old ) come to me see my layout last week.
It was the first time he had scene any type of toy train layout.

The wife and I waited by in the family room when my grand daughter
and the little guy showed up. This kid was all business to the point when
he walked in, he took his coat of, laid it down and started walking through
the house looking for the train room. This kid was on a mission.

My layout consists of two main loops and a loop of super streets.
I had set up the Lion Chief polar express set up for him. Showed him the remote
how to run it and handed it to him. He was semi interested.

Then he saw Thomas and James on the siding.
   “Can we run Thomas ?”
   “ Sure “

After five minutes or chasing the trains he said,
   “ I have to pee “
   “ ok, lets go “
On the way back  “ I'm Thirsty “
No problem, A nice glass of milk is in the fridge.

   Back to the trains.
When Thomas went by I put the snoopy hand car on the track
behind him.  It looked like Snoopy was chasing Thomas.
    Next thing I hear is
   PPPfffffPPPPPffffff
and I see a white spray going all over my layout.
“ That is so funny, Snoopy is chasing Thomas “
Oh well, The buildings needed a cleaning anyway.

Now he comes to me and say's
   “ ya know what ? “
   “  What “
   “ I have a penis, and it's yellow “
   Ok, TMI,
“ What is your name by the way ?”
   “ Nickolas “
“ What is your moms name ? “
   “ Lauren “
“ What is your dads name ? “
   “ Mike “
“ do you know what my mom calls me ? “
   “ no I don't “
   “ She calls me ¼  Mexican “
   This kid is a trip.

A few minutes later it's time to go.
He put's his coat on, and in the middle of the door he stops
   and say's
“ I can come back Thursday after school “
“ Ok talk to your mom “

I hope he remembers his first trip to my layout.
   I won't forget him....

We have kids like this every day at the Carnegie Science Center"s Miniature Railroad, you never know what they are going to do or say, makes our day very enjoyable as we show them how things work and listen to their train stories.  Thomas is a real show stopper for the 5 and under age group, some will run after a train, that's when we remind the parents 21 times around the layout is 1 mile.

 Jack.

I like it when the parents start chasing the kids. I tell them to wait a minute

and the kid will be right back, and they usually are....

Then I show them this sign....
