Randy - what a beautiful church...you must have taken that picture outside if not your background is amazing for realism. Great job. thanks for posting.
Don
Paul: As a guy who grew up in N.J. I really appreciate your photos. That Alco is certainly a handsome engine for sure, thanks for posting.

Don: Thank you for the kind compliment. The church and church yard was part of a diorama that we made for a client while we were still trying to become millionaires in the model train business. Do you know how to wind up with a million dollars in the model train business? Start with two million and open a store.

For today: In honor of my own father ( a member of the BIG RED ONE ) and all those who fought, made the ultimate sacrifice, and participated in the HUGE success of the D Day operation on June 6, 1944. This park, Freedom Park, occupies a prominent place on my layout. It includes an authentic stone which I picked up off Omaha Beach when I visited with my Dad in 2000. Also included in this park is a genuine piece of the Berlin Wall.

God Bless your father, Patrick, and all of those that served and are serving.
I've visited Omaha Beach and the D Day Museum. Those that were involved in that operation have to have been the bravest who ever existed. Since my visit I can't think of this day without tearing up.
A fantastic memorial you have made - thanks for sharing it.
Trumptrain / Lionelski: Agree with you both. God bless your father Trumptrain and all those who "got out of the boats and saved the world" (quote I heard in a prominent speech). I too stood in the American cemetery at Omaha and cried. The average age of all those men (and 7 women) was 27. The casualty rate for the first wave to hit Omaha was 50%!!. The other beaches had far less resistance some in fact nearly none. Unlike some of the other landing sites, Omaha was defended by hardened, experienced, disciplined troops well dug in and exceptionally well armed. Like most soldiers of any country, they too were not fighting for some demagogue in Berlin, but for their buddies in the same hole!. It was a terrible battle. One of those moments when the entire future of the world and civilization stood at the balance point, it could have gone either way except for the persistence, tenacity and courage of our forces. The tribute on your layout is both seriously moving and so very well done. thank you for sharing it.

Randy,
You have no idea how true that last statement really is!
@Allegheny : I do know how true it is. We tried to open a store that only lasted 2 years. We sold the balance of our inventory for a major loss. Though, we did have a good time while it lasted.

Randy,
Who made those tents? I have been trying to find good shelter tents for a long time, for my O scale soldiers!
Great looking scene, as always, but man, I really need to know who made those tents!
