A warm summer night at Vicky's trailer park. Pool is 80 degrees. Snappy music from the Lawrence Welk show is playing from one of the trailers an the smell of BBQs cooking hot dogs. Even the circus has come to town. All is wonderful that nice evening in 1953.Don

Yes, I am the boy in the photo, being reluctant to get out of that corner so I could continue to be close to the passing1666 and Lionel Scout. My parents always allowed me to touch everything, though I was careful and respectful to all of it, even the little houses they both made out of wood.
And you are right. So many of those good and wonderful feelings of childhood have been kept in the heart as joys to relive in the present. In fact, I continue the philosophy of being welcoming toward visitors to the layout who want to touch things - I never complain, but do blow whistles when folks are gesturing over track where a train is approaching, to warn them. Nobody has knocked a train off the tracks yet. However, I let children reach onto certain sections of the layout to gift themselves with one vehicle they have selected as something they'd like to have as a memento.
When you hear that 1666 whistle blowing , I predict you will become quickly enamored of it. I hear my childhood when it blows.

Wow!That is a nice set up you had there. My mother brought me a marx train set.Marx made some good trains. Some of the locomotive smoked from the stack and the sides. And where pretty good pullers. But marx trains seemed to be the roddney dangerfeild of the model train world.

If they made you happy, and you mother happy in giving it to you, that was all the respect the Marx Trains needed. Your happiness made them treasures.
For example, when I was that boy, and a bit older, one of the coolest kids (and richest - his dad was a pilot) in the neighborhood had his own layout, which was possessed of a Lionel SanteFe A-B-B-B-A (no less!!!) and TWO GG1's he would send roaring and rumbling over cross-tracks and switches with great speed, accompanied by mouth-dropped-wide-open cheers from those of us who were invited to his home to see his happiness. Yet, when I got home, and knew I could see this layout my parents put up every Christmas, I was totally happy, happy for Cool Kid, and happy for my parents and myself.

That is definitely Sad, I think the issue is Tier 4 emission restrictions. EMD themselves have only been making the SD70's for international Railroads. I believe they were in the works or finished an SD70ACe-T4 which hopefully will make these units future upgrades and not scrap yard food. I know UP has a few of the new T4 engines on order.
Love the photos though! Looks like those SD70's go on forever lol

P.S. Being a lifelong resident of sections of the USA (the Northeast and Midwest) where foliage is abundant, I have made it a practice, on my layout, and when crafting for others, of not being skimpy with trees and low foliage (and everything in-between)…!

Finally got the bridge up and wired, track is wired as well. Now to the fun part, scenery! Lol I'm quite nervous as I've never done this before but my local hobby shop (Ready to Roll in Miami, FL) has given me a ton of advice and pointers so I think I'm in good hands. Also got a MTH Premier CSX ES44AC from them this week. Here are a few shots of the roster and progress.
Thanks for looking!
P.s. Ceramic buildings are not here to stay lol looking for a box to store them in for Christmas, a coworker was going to throw them out and they were perfect for me new house and kids

I've always wondered if someone took (a model of) one of these 'B' units alone on the front of their train on a layout and waited for anyone to notice the lack of a cab?
Heck, you could always make a decal like the old 'radio equipped' markings on diesels and put down, "DCC equipped" instead?
All three of their "Little Joe's" in one shot of the South Shore Line. This is the Michigan City Yard. Boy those pantographs don't have to reach very far on a interurban line. Don

Fabulous, P51/Lee. They show what can be done with carefully applied imagination and a good memory.
