First off, I am a mechanical moron and, if something is painfully obvious, I usually miss it. Given that, please be kind!
I have an MTH 30-79126 operating Santa boxcar on one of my Christmas loops. Though it has a pickup shoe on each truck for use with an operating track section, it operates whenever power is applied to the track, F-N-R. Power is a Z-4000 on Fastrack (though it operates the same way with a CW-800).
My brother in Atlanta has the identical car and his does not operate automatically when power is applied (nor does it operate, as the MTH video says, when the Bell button is pushed). He's running Fastrack/CW-80. The wild card here is he does not have an operating track section, but the the car was purchased used and tested beforehand. He's not a train guy and I'm trying to diagnose this from 800 miles away, so…
Can anyone tell me why that is? (and again, remember, I'm a mechanical moron!)
