It may help to list which 'cool' functions you are interested in, and more importantly, exactly which engine and or boards by listing the engines and/or board part numbers. Not all engines and boards are the same.

It doesn't seem logical to me that mth would add many, if any, features that dcs wouldn't be able to access.

I think the switch just tells the loco which type of digital signal to listen for, DCS or DCC.

Hi, this is what MTH lists as 'DCC' functions(in addition to DCS functions)- these seem really cool but only for DCC :

  • Electric DCC Features

  • Headlight
  • Bell
  • Whistle/Horn
  • Start Up/Shut Down
  • Rear Coupler
  • Front Coupler
  • Engine Sounds On/Off
  • Sound Volume
  • Ditch Lights Auto/On/Off
  • Forward Signal
  • Reverse Signal
  • Grade Crossing Signal
  • Cab Light On/Off
  • Extended Shut Down
  • Extended Start Up
  • Rev Up
  • Rev Down
  • Coupler Slack Sound
  • One-Shot Doppler
  • Coupler Close
  • Feature Reset
  • Idle Sequence 1
  • Idle Sequence 2
  • Idle Sequence 3
  • Brakes Auto/Off
  • Cab Chatter Auto/Off
  • Clickety-Clack Auto/Off

I've run MTH engines in both DCS and DCC and the same features are available in both operating modes.

Hi Catnap- here are the DCC functions listed with my new Loco:

  • Electric DCC Features

  • Headlight
  • Bell
  • Whistle/Horn
  • Start Up/Shut Down
  • Rear Coupler
  • Front Coupler
  • Engine Sounds On/Off
  • Sound Volume
  • Ditch Lights Auto/On/Off
  • Forward Signal
  • Reverse Signal
  • Grade Crossing Signal
  • Cab Light On/Off
  • Extended Shut Down
  • Extended Start Up
  • Rev Up
  • Rev Down
  • Coupler Slack Sound
  • One-Shot Doppler
  • Coupler Close
  • Feature Reset
  • Idle Sequence 1
  • Idle Sequence 2
  • Idle Sequence 3
  • Brakes Auto/Off
  • Cab Chatter Auto/Off
  • Clickety-Clack Auto/Off

For example I would like to access Rev up/down, idle sequences, grade crossing signal, extended startup, shutdown.

Maybe I am just not using the right commands or pushing the right buttons-thanks-Rolf
