I recently obtained an MTH loco, Protosound 3 with a DCC/DCS switch. I also note that there are many more 'cool' functions available on DCC than DCS. Is there any way to use those functions on DCS? Thanks-Rolf

It may help to list which 'cool' functions you are interested in, and more importantly, exactly which engine and or boards by listing the engines and/or board part numbers. Not all engines and boards are the same.
It doesn't seem logical to me that mth would add many, if any, features that dcs wouldn't be able to access.
I think the switch just tells the loco which type of digital signal to listen for, DCS or DCC.
I've run MTH engines in both DCS and DCC and the same features are available in both operating modes.
Hi, this is what MTH lists as 'DCC' functions(in addition to DCS functions)- these seem really cool but only for DCC :

- Reverse Signal
- Grade Crossing Signal
- Cab Light On/Off
- Extended Shut Down
- Extended Start Up
- Rev Up

- Coupler Slack Sound
- One-Shot Doppler
- Coupler Close
- Feature Reset

Hi Catnap- here are the DCC functions listed with my new Loco:

- Whistle/Horn
- Start Up/Shut Down
- Rear Coupler
- Front Coupler
- Engine Sounds On/Off
- Sound Volume
- Ditch Lights Auto/On/Off

For example I would like to access Rev up/down, idle sequences, grade crossing signal, extended startup, shutdown.
Maybe I am just not using the right commands or pushing the right buttons-thanks-Rolf
All those functions are available thru DCS.
It may take time and some deeper reading of the manual, but you'll likely be a pro soon enough with more practice.
Good luck to you.
Yup. All those functions are available through DCS. In the Engine Control Screen Section on page 31 in Barry’s 3rd edition it references that all Soft Keys, definitions and functions) can be found in Apendix B. Although they really appear in Apendix D., everything you need to know about accessing these functions is there.
