Adding a ERR Railsound Kit

Carl, wouldn't Roy help you with this since he sold you the kit?  That's called customer support.

What specific questions do you have?  The graphic below appears to explain what you're connecting where.

With that said, a simpler way to do this is to simply remove the two plug-in boards and wire the ERR board to the pins where the sound board plugs in.

I agree, gunrunerJohn! It would be customer service.  Wish I could answer that question.  And, thanks for uploading the graphics for me. 

I'm suggesting leaving the motherboard and just tieing to the few lines you need there.  Leave the tether between the locomotive and tender, it brings back everything you need.

GunrunerJohn, How would you do that? Is there a diagram for that? Sounds easier. 

So, John in other words

1 - leave the existing Lionel boards in place.

2 - connect the 3 position wire into ERR board, that draws information from the cereal port,

3 - then take the 4 position pin plug and plug it into the J2 (command board) 

4- then plug in the 2 position wire onto ERR Board

5 - then take the multi -position plug (purple and black wire) and plug that onto ERR Board.

Is that what you suggest?  If so would I need to connect the chuff to ERR Board or will the Lionel existing still work.

Also, I would replace the speaker.

1. No, just leave the motherboard in place, remove the two plug-in boards!

The picture of the back of the Railsounds board was just to show you which pins you need to use.  There are only three wires that come from the locomotive to the tender that deal with sound, power, wheels, and serial data.  The chuff comes through the serial data.  The only other connection to the ERR board is the speaker, and you can use the existing speaker, it's the proper impedance.  When the smoke clears, you have three connectors on the ERR board, power, serial data, and speaker.

Just as a side note, the file will open with the free LibreOffice suite.

The graphics files pop right open in the thread, no need for any extra software.   Truthfully, it makes no sense to post simple graphic files in forums that you need to download and install software to view.

Thanks gunrunnerjohn, for your patience. And, yes I installed "LibreOffice."  Let me attempt to recap. 

1 - I'll remove both sound boards leaving the motherboard in place.

2 - There are 4 wires from the locomotive to the tender that go into the motherboard (J2) purple, black, red,            and white.

     Question 1 - do these four (4) wires stay in the motherboard or do they go to the ERR? I think they stay in.

     Question 2 - And/or leave the four (4) wires (J2 - purple, black, red, and white) in the motherboard, and                                   connect from the motherboard using a four pin plug to the ERR?

                            If done based on question 2,  the ERR board should have power, serial data, and speaker                                      supply.

3 - After connecting from the motherboard to the ERR Board - connect with a 2 position wire to the right of the speaker connector, and then take the multi position plug (with purple, and black on it), and connect to the 9 position male on the ERR board (top right).

Does that sound right?

The four wires in the tether stay where they are connected.  For the wires from the ERR RS Commander, you are going to connect them to the projecting pins where the sound board used to be plugged in.  The sound board is to be removed along with the power supply board.

Connect the speaker wires to the pins on my diagram labeled Speaker.

Connect the black wire that comes from the ERR RS Board harness to the pins on my diagram labeled Wheels (BLACK).

Connect the red wire that comes from the ERR RS Board harness to the pins on my diagram labeled Roller (RED).

Connect the purple wire that comes from the ERR RS Board harness to the pin on my diagram labeled Serial data (Purple).

Hello gunrunnerJohn, so I just got the ERR board in.

Question - when I connect to the "Backside the Railsound 3 &4 Audio Board,"

                   Do I cut the ERR lines, and solder the lines on to the projecting pins where the sound board used t                       to be plugged in ?

                    Also, which side (existing boards removed) do I solder the lines to?                                                                            Is it the side marked "RS27SA16 LIONEL Trains?"

Reference as follows:

Connect the speaker wires to the pins on my diagram labeled Speaker.

Connect the black wire that comes from the ERR RS Board harness to the pins on my diagram labeled Wheels (BLACK).

Connect the red wire that comes from the ERR RS Board harness to the pins on my diagram labeled Roller (RED).

Pictured below is where I'm at with this project.  The main issue is red, two black wires together, purple wire. Can I just connect to the corresponding lines from the locomotive?

I'd verify that the wires go where you think they go with a meter.  The purple wire on the ERR board is the serial data, the red is track power, and the black is the wheels.  Make sure they actually connect to those places if you don't want to cook the board.
