So I am new to gargraves. I just replaced all my tubular track. I am wanting to add a turnout in the middle of a stretch of track after everything is attached. How do I go about making the rail connections. I was never fond of track software and never planned that far ahead. I am more of just a "wing it" person.

It's actually a pretty simple process:

  1. Cut out and remove the section of track where the turnout is going to be placed. This should be equal to the length of the straight leg of the turnout.
  2. loosen the remaining track so it can be lifted up to give you about 1/2" of clearance on either side of the turnout. If the track is ballasted, you'll have to remove the ballast pretty far back and scrape any remnants from the benchwork or the track won't re-seat properly.
  3. Put track pins in the ends of the existing track and bend them down slightly.
  4. Lift up the existing ends and insert the pins into the switch.
  5. Press downward and the pins should seat into the switch and track ends.
  6. Align everything.
  7. Re-fasten the track.

Hope this helps.

Also with Gargraves make sure that you have power to the switch siding and the straight thru, both center rail and outside rail. Check the switch to make sure that the center rail power goes thru!

This may not be an issue any longer on the new switches by Gargraves, but I have had a few older Gargraves 072 switches that the center rail was not hooked-up to re-distibute any power, even to the straight side of the switch.
