Adding detail to front rear pilots | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I have the MTH gevo hybrid but like the look of the lionel much better so I need some help from the more expierenced modelers. Lionel sells the complete front and rear pilots at what I feel is a reasonable price so I thought I might be able to transfer over the parts I want ( red hose and mu hoses )but is there an easier way? I've heard you can just add a red hose by using a piece of red sheathed 20awg wire but that seems too easy and what about mounting it, drill holes, glue ???? Please help

Well, it is a little more involved than just drilling holes and stuffing a wire in the hole.

Note the connectors on each end of the cables. The chain in the middle connects to the underside of the walkway.
