Hi everyone,

I could use some advice with a Legacy F3 A. The locomotive runs perfectly on Atlas O track and switches up to 0-72. On    Atlas O #5 or #7.5 switches, the loco stalls. I imagine one of the pickups on the lead truck somehow is not sending power when it hits a dead spot but I would think the other pickups would still be "hot.". All other Legacy locos navigate those switches fine. It is not a ground plane issue because all loco functions like the bell and couplers operate correctly just before and just after the switch. All other Legacy locos have no signal or running issues in the same area.

Assuming both trucks remain powered, what steps should I take?

Many thanks,

Al

BobbyD,

Yes I have and I have found the problem, or at least part of the problem. All my commons are tied together. When I lift the loco front truck, power continues. When I lift the back truck, power does not continue. The front truck is not picking up power so there must be a connection issue. I have taken off the truck but do not see anything loose. Suggestions?

Easiest check is to run a multimeter continuity check between the wheels on the front and rear trucks. Do the same for the pickup rollers.  If its an open circuit, then one of the trucks isnt connected to the other. If, as you suspect, the front truck is missing its electrical connection, then you'll have to pop the loco open and trace the wires from the top of the trucks to the plug for the board. I would test from the board plug to the truck as well once you get the loco open. I would think it has to be between the wheels and the board.
