I have a DeVilbiss, 2.5 gallon air compressor that I bought new a number of years ago when I was heavily involved in air brushing/painting models. I have not used this air compressor for the past 8-10 years. It has been stored in my work room all this time at room temperature...not in the basement, garage or attic.

Because of it's long period of non-use, is there any procedures I need to go through before starting up this compressor?  Or any precautions I need to take?

It is in like new condition...just hasn't been used lately.

I picked up my Dad's DeVilbiss compressor a couple of months ago.  It had not been run in a couple of years, so I wanted to check it out to make sure it was A) working, and B) safe.

After making sure there was no pressure remaining in the tank, I opened the drain plug to release any water (there was about an ounce), and then started it up while standing back where I could unplug it quickly if the cut-out pressure (120lbs) was  exceeded.  In the end, everything worked as it was supposed to, and it is a great compressor for pretty much anything you could imagine around the home.
