Hello; I'm interested in the Albert Hall set. Can anyone tell me what couplers are used on the set and what type of couplers were used on the actual train? Thanks; wayne walter

I'm sure Lionel used their U.S. style knuckle couplers, but I imagine that the actual train used the British style "hook and loop" style (I don't know what the correct term is for their coupling system).

The luxury coupling was as Rusty described above. The older freight cars had just a 3-link chain and hook. When I ran some British O scale I had a thin strip of brass shimstock bent in an elongated 'S' shape for coupling and un-coupling the chain links - worked like a charm. There are people who do this with a magnetic tool in smaller scales, but they are a different breed. (Photo is British 4mm/ft 00 finescale) Stick with the Lionel couplers for your sanity's sake.
