Hoopla added a feature called "On-Site Alerts" to the software the other day. They decided that these alerts were better than emails for notifications of activity. I'm not so sure I agree with that, but fortunately there is a way to turn these alerts OFF.

  1. Mouse over your Display Name in the upper right corner of any screen.
  2. Scroll down and click on "NOTIFICATIONS." You will then see this screen:

Alert Shutoff

UN-click the "On-Site Alert" button to shut off the alerts.

If the "Email" button is not clicked, go ahead and click it on. That's where you turn ON email alerts.

Well, yes, but I liked getting "Someone liked your topic reply" alerts here without getting "Someone replied to a thread" alerts here...  :/

It looks to be more directly customizable if you select the "Primary Notifications" section.

There are lots of check boxes there for "Instant Notifications" which it says are all on-site alerts.

I suspect playing around in there might return the behavior to what you desire.  There are a lot of options though, so I'm sure it's also easy to make the problem worse to the point where you get an alert for any sort of post on the Forum.

I'm not sure this is correct.  I am having the same issue.  In the old system, you would only get an Alert when someone liked your content, followed you, etc.

Since the change, if you check "On-site Alert"-- regardless of what is checked in "Influence Notifications -- you'll get notifications for all of the items pictured at the bottom of your screen shot above PLUS whenever someone replies to thread you're following.  This latter part -- receiving alerts when someone replies to thread -- is new ... and it's too much.

As the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."  This is true both in the world of software and in the world of toy trains.

I would like to request those who have contact with Hoop La to let them know that they should unfix what they fixed in July.  If this isn't possible, an additional checkbox should be added to the above list to allow us to turn off notifications when someone makes a post to a followed thread.  Right now, you get an alert 100% of the time when you enable "On-site Alerts".

Thanks.
