Does anyone know when the new American Models dome bud car will be on the market? American Modles seems slow at updating their web site. They do not have the new GG1s up yet.

I suspect only Ron knows for sure.
Rusty
Has Ron ever posted on here before Rusty?
Ben
I have also been checking the site, ready to place an order for two of the dome cars. One for my UP set and one for the silver PRR set.

Nope. Except for a couple of posts on Yahoo S Scale way back in 2000, as far as I know he doesn't do the online forum thing anywhere.
I could use a couple of Bulington's myself, even though I have some reservation's about the cars design.
Rusty
He is making domes for all the roads he did sets for, but the Illinois Central. He said the IC sets did not sell well. I interviewed him for the S Gaugian and asked him about the domes. The interview should be in the next edition.
Not to hijack the thread..but it's my thread...
Bill - what was the verdict on an interview with Des Plains Hobbies/S Scale America?
I don't mean to be "pushy" with the interviews, but the reason I have kept my subscription to the S Gaugian up is for the interviews like this.
Ben
Ben: I am not interested in Des Plains Hobbies for an interview. They are to me more like a Hobby Shop and not a true manufacturer of trains like the rest. Sorry.
Rusty ,
The cars design in general? Or specific to the Burlington's equipment?
I myself would be in for the UP, and likely the Santa Fe

Overall, based on the one photo I've seen it captures a Budd dome fairly well, but I'm going to hold off on specifics until I get one in my hands.
Rusty
Mark, the Texas Special looks like a really nice set, I have not seen one other than in a picture. I know I always regret when I pass on one of the extra cars for the sets I have, then I spend time searching for one in the aftermarket. Now, are you sure you do not need one to run and one to keep in the unopened original box???

Don't believe that I saw a photo of the Budd dome you mentioned. Do you have one to post? Thanks.

Here 'tis. Not my photo.

As soon as I saw that picture I knew I had to have one for each of my sets! Sure hope they show up for sale on the AM website before the end of the year.
There is almost nothing I like better than helping other people spend their money! Goodness knows I am well practiced at spending my own.

When are these dome cars going to be available?

The car doesn't look like it's full length in the photo, is it maybe a shortened version to better accommodate typical American Flyer/train set curves?
Bill in FtL
In the area of looks, the original streamlined TX SP with its E7 units is an under rated train!
I don't do S, but have the 6 car Williams 15" Al CARS, AND RUN IT WITH THE 1954 2245 TS or the Williams UP MKT Heritage loco. All that red looks great!
(er, I say I don't do S. One could argue that 8 wheel/deluxe MARX is S on "broad gauge" tracks/trucks!)

I doubt that Ron changed the length of the car. Looks like the window configuration has been remodeled to more closely conform to the actual car such as ex-Burlington #558:
Here's one of the other Burlington Budd cars from The AM website:
and the new dome. They look pretty close in length to me but who knows?
Mark
The 558 was always a smooth side car, owned by the CB&Q but built for the North Coast Limited service and was painted in NP's 2-tone green, like the 554:
The current of the 558 owners probably have it down to bare stainless steel and partial paint for maintenance purposes.
Domes for the Q's own passenger service were fluted.
The model will be compressed to a scale 74' to match AM's other Budd cars.
Rusty
Smooth cars are so SMOOTH!

The GN Budds were flutted, but had something over them to make them look smooth. Considering NP and the Q were Hill roads, the same might have happened here!
And the NP domes were leased for the CHI-FLA SOUTH WIND. So you CAN have DOMES on the PRR!
