The F40PH has several lights. I don't know what they all do or are? I'm trying to build one up and could use help.

I read that there are white flashing beacons on top that flash together.

So then there's two lights right below those on the top of the face of the cab's number board panel. Are those used as marker lights?

There's a large light right in the center of that top front NB panel that appears to be red. Is that a Beacon? or strobe? or marker? when does that light?

I see that they added ditch lights near the bottom.

I ran a lot of F40's during the 4 years I worked Amtrak passenger trains in the 1980's.  As far as the roof strobes are concerned, both of the flashing sequences described did exist.  Although the lower numbered 200 series  were delivered with alternating strobes, with the passage of time, there was a lack of consistency in which engines flashed which way, probably having a lot to do with the engine house where the engines were maintained.  As strobe control modules were removed and replaced during maintenance or repairs, Amtrak did not worry much about the flashing sequence.  I recall two F40's with selector boxes -- definitely home shop add-ons -- which did absolutely nothing to control the strobe lights.  There might have been a selector on the strobe flash module in the electrical cabinet, but, if so, it was not designed for the Engineer to change it.
