Any ideas on an affordable Lionel Legacy Steam Engine made in the last 3-5 years?

Affordable is subjective of course, so for me that would be one in the $500 range that has Railsounds, Odyssey speed control and the Legacy Command system.

Is there such an animal?

Thanks,

Robert

One of the first of Lionels Legacy steamers, the 11117 Santa Fe was $599 MSRP but could be found for under $500 when new, however this engine goes all the way back to 2007. Since then there have been some additional roadnames, but the price did go up somewhat.

You many want to check out my guide to Legacy steamers here:

Thank you all for the replies and suggestions!  Does anyone know in what year the Atlantics or Ten Wheelers were offered?  Not having a lot of luck with key word searches.

As Peter alluded and Ed's guide somewhat reinforces, it seems $700 is the more common jumping off point for more recent Legacy Steam engines.  It seems that $900 to $1,000 for Legacy Steam engines is fairly average.  Is that due to the scale size and detail?

I could maybe talk myself into $600, but would prefer to keep it closer to $500 if possible.  I'm not fixated with scale size, but are there such things as non-scale Legacy steam engines?

I purchased a cab1L/base1L to run my Legacy Neil Young Texas Specials, and was hoping to find a moderately priced Legacy Steam engine since I now have the basic Legacy Command system.

Thanks again for any and all advice or suggestions,

Robert

You can go to Lionel.com and search on 4-6-0. It appears the Legacy ten wheelers were offered in 2008, 09, 10 in NYC, C&O and CP roadnames. I was fortunate to find one lettered for NYC for <400 bucks. Hopefully you will be as fortunate. They were also offered previously in both conventional and with Odyssey.

Pete
