I picked up a complete light assembly for my #195 light less light tower. It slides right down on the two metal rods used for the electrical connection just fine, but is that it? My Lionel repair manual says, slide the assembly down the rods and that makes the electrical connection, but it sure is a loose and intermittent looking connection. There were no push on retainers that held it firmly in place and in good contact? Anybody solder it on?

Yes, that is it. If it really is too loose, you can slightly bend the arms on the assembly for a bit more friction and thus a better connection.
