It's obvious that you guys take real pride in your work.
Water turned out perfect, especially the tug wake.
Big Time work being done, nice.
Larry
Very nice! I really like the way the water looks so real. Very well done! Bo

Well Done!
WOW!!!!!!
Great looking harbor scene. I like the dock and The warehouse on the dock with tracks next to it. All of it. And the engine service facility across the way.
Dorcie,
That looks great – the water and everything else!
It appears that you shaped and colored the waves and boat wake first, and then poured Envirotex (or similar) over it. If not a confidential trade secret, what material did you use to form the water and then pour Envirotex over it?
Thanks!
Alex
Incredibly well done. About the only thing I would love to see is have the harbor support car float capability of some sort, but given the design of this and the size, I don't think that would be possible....be kind of cool to have a harbor setup of some type with docks at either end of a long stretch and a car float that moves between the two ends, allowing switching cars off/on the float..but would take a lot of space to do that...
Very Nice!
Thank you for sharing the construction photos with us. The warehouse on the piers is pretty neat.

I talked with Roger over lunch today and he said the "water" process goes something like this:
First thing he did was to paint entire surface - (heck that looked good enough to me... )
Then he used Liquitex which is a gel medium...actually built it up in layers to create waves and then poured Magic Water over everything.
It keeps getting better and better looking as the water effect continues to dry and set.
I'll be sure to post pictures when it is completed.
Yeah, yeah. Fabulous.
I would rather have a crappy looking scene that I made with my own two hands than a museum quality setting made by professional model builders. But that's just me, eh.
Pete
Pete,
While I, too, prefer to build my own, I can still appreciate the craftmanship that went into the construction of this scene. I also think that the construction photos would be very helpful for someone thinking about building something similiar.
Jim
Ridiculous!!! In a great way! Can't wait to see the finished product.
all those pylons and not one gull perched??
otherwise, nice job!
cheers...gary
Train Dame,
Trainworx should put together a how to dvd or digital book on your how to for a layout like this.
Dorcie,
That is a very nice scene. I cannot get my water to ever look like that!
Thanks for posting the photos.
Dave
I really enjoy your harbor scene. Please keep us updated with more pictures.
I also would love to see a "how-to" on creating that water scene. Fabulous.
Rick
This woman is continually producing giant commercials here on the forum-tens of thousands of dollars worth if published in the magazine or presented on the forum-all for nothing. At least Korber puts their money where their mouth is when they do this stuff. I guess, just by positing the question, 'what do you like best?' you get to play the forum members like a cheap piano.

True Bob, However I like their "stuff". The harbor scene is top shelf. I am sure this 9x20' extension is costing their customer $20-30k+ range depending upon how tw finishes it?

Ok, that's fine...but how does this relate to my point concerning the production of infomercials, with complete impunity, here on the forum ? I'm not getting it.

Hi Bob Di Stefano!
My oh my...what a cynical fellow this man is "This woman" has a name: I am Dorcie Farkash and I also have a forum "handle" Train Dame.
Simply stated ----> YOU are wrong. I am not and have not "produced giant commercials here on the forum." I have much more respect for the editors of this and other forums to break the rules and find your accusation quite insulting not only to me but more importantly to the members of this forum.
I shared process pictures of a project we're working on...that's it.
I know, this world is just crazy...so let me define what SHARE means:
"To allow someone to use or enjoy something that one possesses"
Never been accused of "Playing fellow members like a cheap piano" before - but heck, there's always a first time for everything.
We're all grown ups and those that feel the same as you are certainly entitled to that "shared" opinion but I will wait until Alan or Ed point out to me how I am indeed taking advantage of all the Cheap Piano Forum Members here on the OGR forum whereby I will no doubt be thrown off and/or locked out of all future SHARING.
Time is our number one, most precious asset and I have wasted too much responding to your CHEAP unfounded incorrect STUPID accusations.
Silly me,
Happy Tracks!

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks."
Shakespeare's Hamlet, Act III, scene II, Queen Gertrude,
Hey Skyhook: Really? We all get to see a professionally-done project one step at a time, complete with answers to how it was done, and you find something wrong with this? I'm pretty sure if other companies wanted to post like-pictures of their manufacturing processes, whether it be shots of the Weaver assembly line or Miller Engineering designing a new sign, or pictures from RCS building a new product, MOST of us here would welcome it.
Dorcie has posted photos and tips that may, or may not lead to expanding her customer base. But those pictures and tips will CERTAINLY inspire some folks here to improve their own layouts and try new things.
Keep 'em coming Dorcie!
By the way, looks like high-tide in the harbor is in about 45 minutes. Tell the tug captain he'll want to get tied alongside the barge soon!
Jon
Dorcie, Thank you so much for taking the time to not only post photos but provide great information. I have been planning to add a harbor of sorts and you have provided me some great ideas.
Keep the posts coming and thanks again for sharing. As a forum member I am embarrassed at the way you have been treated above and apologize.

I don't think so. Most of us are not potential customers for professional layout builders. But we can recognize and learn great techniques and enjoy the great results. This kind of material is both educational and inspirational - one of the best uses of the forum, IMO. I thank Dorcie and Trainworx for sharing this with us. Please keep sharing and don't let the naysayers get you down.
Dorcie...don't pay attention to that Scrooge fella. I enjoy seeing pictures and videos of your projects and layouts and, like others have stated, I have gleaned several ideas for my own projects, such as those background mountains on the BNSF layout and some of those elevated lines on your Christmas layouts. Rather than complain about posts people should just not open them.

are you really surprised commercial businesses take advantage of free advertising? take a look at the eBay Live Steam category and you'll find 90% if the ads there are business generated with a link to their company/store website.
