Hi Gang,
I'm not the most prolific poster, because I don't have a layout. So, for Christmas, I thought I would do a carpet layout around the tree. To help with the festive spirit, I ordered three boxes of the new clear illuminated (LED) FasTrack. Received them from Charles Ro last night, and opened up the boxes with real excitement. I purchased an oval of track, and 2 boxes of 4 straight tracks. I looked over the track with some confusion! Other than a little dinky receptacle on one of the straight tracks in the oval, there is NO WAY to hook up the real power necessary to operate trains of any era! Inside the track, being generous, I can see 2, perhaps 20 AWG, wires leading to the normal track connection, encased inside the clear plastic bottom, perhaps added to protect the LED's. Other than connecting the clear track to a gray piece of FasTrack, there is NO EASY WAY to connect heavier wire! Of course, to my mind, adding a gray pair of tracks (one on each side of the oval) spoils the reason I purchased the clear track to begin with!
This is a classic example of the engineer NOT TRYING OUT their own design. If you wanted to power up a pair of powered Post War F3 growlers, you run the chance of melting the insulation on the two skinny wires provided inside the track. I'm not happy at all about this. You should not have to modify a piece of track to power it up to run any variety of trains. The supplied wire is about heavy enough gauge to run a simple DC can motor in a LionChief cheap starter set engine.
So it's okay for someone to post I was too hasty, and there is an easy way to attach power wires.
Lionel thanks for the not so great Christmas layout of clear FasTrack to put around my tree. Unless you add the pair of prior mentioned gray FasTracks, you will have a significant job of sawing and filing the clear track to properly power it up! DUH!
Hey - Merry Christmas everyone! - DonHRadio
