This is a crossing near my home, it does not have gates and is on a slight curve, but has decent visibility.
The NS crew gets on the horn good through this section. There are several open crossings along this line.

Unusually lucky, it's amazing the driver was not injured or killed.

I almost got to watch one of these geniuses remove himself from the gene pool this morning. The guy decided he was going to scoot through the crossing before the gate came down but got stopped by traffic on the track. Fortunately for him, the traffic cleared enough for him to make it off the tracks. This is a main line, so he probably wouldn't have been as lucky as the driver in the above story judging by the speed of the train that came through.
