I have noticed on a couple of AD-20 IR boards, there is a small SPDT slide switch mounted at the edge farthest from the 24 pin connector.
It is cleverly marked "S1" but there is no other indication what it's function might be.
Can any TMCC experts shed any light please?

What is an AD-20?
That is the IR decoder board used in the tender of wireless tether steamers, used to decode the IR serial information from the engine.
TMCC steam from around 2000 until Legacy.

Probably the RS/SS (Rail Sounds/Signal Sounds) switch? That's all I can see on the schematics for several of the IR tethered tenders
