Probably because they're out of stock at RMT??? I don't think $30/car is out of line for O Gauge rolling stock if you like the car and no one else has it in stock for less...

This is actually happening all over the place with the various products that have been blown out recently.  Just about every type of Lionel steamer from the 2011/2012 has been blown out at ridiculously "low" price-points over the past few months by some dealers.  Yet other dealers still have their original stock that they're now trying to move -- hoping that folks will want the items badly enough to pay the extra $$$ for them.  Some folks might.  But in general, most folks will pass as they're now focusing on the newly catalog'd items for 2013 delivery -- albeit at premium prices.

Me? I'm still quietly picking up some great deals on blow-out items here and there as the opportunity presents itself.  Each week, something new is being offered at prices that are tough to ignore.    The latest items hitting the blow-out zone appear to be Mikados and Shays.  I'm wondering what's gonna be left to sell at Lionel's factory sale this month... Or worse yet, whose gonna have any funds remaining to make purchases there!!!

I got a Williams scale GG-1 PRR #4935 that is a prototypical correct 20" long model of the 80 foot long Green pin striped GG-1's that I used to see running on the Pennsylvania Railroad during the 1940's, 50's, 60's before they were painted black by Penn Central after 1967 or silver by AMTRAK after 1971 or NJ Transit after 1983.

The semi-scale 14" long GG-1's subsequently made by K LINE, MTH, Williams or any other manufacturer that are replica of a 1950's LIONEL GG-1 never looked scale to me.
