Models of 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 steam switchers have been made by MTH, Lionel, K-Line and Weaver.

In the New York City area, 2-4-4T steam engines were used on the New York & Northern and New York Central Railroads between New York City and Getty Square in Yonkers. In the Boston area, 2-6-6T and 4-6-6T steam engines were used on the Boston & Albany Railroad.
