I just received an email from Charlie Ro indicating these steamers have arrived in Malden, MA. At $1850, they're a bit steep for what I'd want to pay, so I'm gonna let the dust settle a bit. Considering I got Lionel's Legacy Y6b about 12-18 months ago for $1450-ish, I'm gonna wait for a dealer to offer a 15%-discount sale to get these Allegheny's down to the $1550-$1575 range. That's enough of a premium over the Y6b to account for Chinese labor increases this year. Anything more than that, and the dealers can look elsewhere for their selling opportunities.
Same can be said for the Steel City Switcher set at $1,100 street-price. Just way, WAY too steep for an 0-8-0 switcher with only 4 freight cars. Can a set be made any smaller at such a premium price? And I'm a Bethlehem Steel fan too, but I'll wait to grab this set for $925-$950. Other than that, it can collect some dust in inventory for awhile.
I'm willing to buy, but not at the current street-prices. Dealers can contact me if they want to make a sale!!! Email is in my OGR Profile.

I know... but I'm not choosy! Any C&O or the Virginian would be fine.
Seriously, the Allegheny could be one of the BTO steamers where dealer orders were close to actual pre-orders. But I'm betting they'll be a few extra's around somewhere. Only time will tell. And if I miss out, there are ALWAYS alternatives...
At Allentown last Saturday, I could have grabbed one of MTH's brand new Z-6 challengers with SIX freight cars for $1,500. Now that's some great price/performance. $1850 for just the Allegheny locomotive? No way!!!

Mine should be arriving today.

I was out this morning. Fedex came at 9:04 but my wife did not here the door bell. Neither did the dog. Had the Allegheny and the SD 60 First responder engine coming. They will be delivered tomorrow. They are both in the dog house.

LOL! ... my LHS is already sold out.
at 2K I am out! I will settle for the JLC version.
Or a college student like myself, I'd settle for 1999 version and just give Cruise later on. It'd still cost a third of the new version, and maybe half of the JLC version.
Nonetheless, I do want to see the new one in action, and see if Lionel did do it justice with the sounds and features.

Not surprised... LHS's probably only ordered based on firm customer pre-orders. Not too many LHS's (or even some larger dealers for that matter) are gonna order lots of (if any) extra $2,200 MSRP locomotives -- even if that MSRP is meaningless.
After all, there are only so many large steamers any one person "needs". And like I said, I also have my eye on MTH's Great Northern Z-6 challenger, which is a nicely detailed articulated steamer in its own right, along with next years MTH Great Northern R-2 -- both of which carry a $1,500 MSRP each. That's a huge difference from $2,200 just to get whistle-steam!!! And there's likely a bit of wiggle room on those MTH steamers too. Some even come packaged with 5 freight cars and a caboose for a street-price of $1,500.
Among the three (Allegheny, Z6, and R2), I'd likely only spring for one.

They really should have made this model a Vision Line for the price.
