Steve...I live in San Antonio and unfortunately not much in the way of O gauge/scale down here (at least what I have discovered so far). Hobby Town here has some Lionel but not much in my opinion to get too excited about. Some of the other local hobby stores carry primarily HO if they carry trains at all. I know there is a transportation museum on the east side of town that has some train related stuff but I have not made it over there yet. Shoot me an e-mail (via the address in my profile) and we can chat more if you wish.   -Len

The SP Sunset Station still stands and has the T&NO #794 stuffed and mounted in front. Its off of Commerce near the Alamodome. Amtrak's Texas Eagle and Sunset Limited stop there. The I&GN (MoPac) Depot is on the west end of Commerce and was restored into a bank. It may yet still become a train station again though.

The Texas Transportation Museum is up near the airport off of Wetmore Rd. Its not bad.

The San Antonio Model Railroad Association (SAMRA) has a museum quality HO layout in their own clubhouse up near Live Oak. Try looking them up if you can.

New Braunfels has a nice restored MP depot and museum as well.

Austin has the Austin Steam Train that runs from Cedar Park to Burnet every Sat. & Sun right not.

Unfortunately the Austin Tinplate Trackers did not setup a holiday display in downtown Austin. We just couldn't find anyone willing to help us out and give us a vacant store like in the past.

We will be setting up at the World's Greatest Hobby Show in Fort Worth on the 5 & 6th January.

You also have the SP Sunset Route running east and west thru town plus the MKT and MP coming down from San Marcos and Austin so there is lots to see usually.

But all their engines are painted yellow and grey.

That old SP Sunset station is worth seeing, if for no other reason than to view the large and lovely stained glass window of the SP logo located there. At least it was there a number of years ago when I last visited.

As far as O gauge stores, San Antonio used to have Lone Star Trains, but they've been gone a number of years now. Unfortunately, SA has joined the list of large metro areas (SA has a greater metro population of over 2 million) that don't have a single train shop with O gauge, or even a hobby shop with any significant O gauge. O gauge dealers are getting few and far between in this state.
