I have purchased items from Stout on-line in the past (always with good results) but have never been to one of their auctions in person. I was wondering if anyone has attended a Stout Auction in Indiana. If so, how many people were present? Is there any advantage to being there (besides actually seeing the merchandise before you buy)? The internet buyers premium & shipping (paid with a check) and the on-site buyers premium along with Indiana sales tax appear to be a wash. I'm about 4 hours away and was considering going to an auction in person. Just wondering ...

Stouts is only about 20 min. from my home (Danville Il.)I have been several times & always a good time, coffee, soda, donuts in the morning. Lunch around noon (the local pizza place is my favorite) Great place good people. My son about a year ago said "anything with out ODY. take it to Stouts" the back of my van was about 1/2 full. I was pleased with the amount of $$$ I got for all the items. I then purchased engines with ODY. Also a great place to "rotate the inventory" if I get tired of something I sell it then get something different LOL!

Train Nerd Al

Al,

Do you mean to say that you just take train related items to Stout's and they sell it for you? If so, how much lead time do they need to sell your items? Can you take it the day of the auction and have them sell it then and there? Perhaps this is the stuff John was referring to in the above response - items at the end of the auction that are not listed on line.

I ask because I have a little HO stuff that I would like to pass on to a good home. Maybe, someday, if I make the trip ...

I went to several of their auctions when they were held at different locations around

Indianapolis...a church facility at least once, and then a national guard armory...I

have not attended any since they moved much farther away near Chicago.  I think

I got one really rare item, a brass unpowered Sykes railbus, which I powered for

three rail, and was outbid for a McKeen car there.
