Anybody know if this is a 1meg or a 2meg Proto2 chip?

It's almost certainly a 1 Meg chip since it lacks the "Sharp" or "Edge" (I forget which) designation.

Just try to load a 2 Meg sound fie and you'll find out, for sure, right away.  

That's the problem, Barry.  I don't want to tear the GG1 apart and install this kit just to find out there are no sound/control files available to load and make it work.  Sounds like I have a "worthless kit" from MTH unless it could be used to upgrade some other Proto locomotive?

Your Song Chuan number is the Relay which controls motor direction.  I don't think there's a correlation between the brand/type of Relay used and memory size.

If you can look on the bottom of the board with the Song Chuan part, there is one big black chip that is the memory and its numbers will tell you 1 or 2 Meg.

Thank you!  Couldn't make out the numbers but it does say "Sharp - Japan" so it looks like it is the 2meg chip.

Just an FYI, the Rail King GG1 PS2 sound files are 1 Meg. You don't need a premier GG1 sound file.

The 2 meg chip as Barry stated has the word Sharp on the large chip on the bottom of the processor board.   Plenty of sound files exist for that board. I checked my service notes and the 2 meg boards started showing up in the upgrade kits June 22, 2007.  You are good to go with the upgrade kit you have.
