The first photo below shows two motors from Superstreets/EZStreets vehicles.  The motor on the left is visually identical (except for numbers stamped on the case) to those in nearly all 'Streets vehicles I have ever taken apart, from the very earliest metal chassis K-Line units hrough all the Lionel years to the current Bachman offerings.  It is also used in the Lionel early era inspection vehicle, some Porters, and the clown cars.  The motor on the right was used only, as far as I know, in a few K-Line by Lionel vintage trucks.

Does anyone know of versions of these motors, or a source of can motors of roughly these small dimensions, with a worm gear at one end and  flywheels attached as shown in my edited drawing added to the lower photo? I am looking specifically for motors with only one flywheel and one worm gear, not one at both ends and flex shafts like many HO diesel drives have.

Thanks guys.

The one hand car I have has the motor on the left in the photos I posted.  No flywheel.

dkdkrd - I've looked at Northwest Short Line's website before.  Going to have to contact them.  Maybe I could get them to make up a few dozen special motors like this for me.  I'm going to e-mail them next.

RickO - I bought some of the motors shown in the ebay link. They work well, and in fact just about plug in where the standard "streets motors go, no problem.  But  no flywheel, and like the standard 'Streets motors, have either no back end shaft or too short of a shaft end at the back to mount a flywheel.

BTW - the smallest motor I have found with a flywheel installed is that shown in my posting yesterday of the Bartoletti transporter.  It came out of an Atlas Atlantic (the tiny, nearly S-scale-but-runs-on-O loco).

Those look like Mabuchi "N" size motors. Check out the R/C helicopter section at your LHS. These motors are used on the tail rotor of some models. Another place is All Electronics. They usually have a good assortment. Another place might be the Robot marketplace. They carry many different motors. Good luck,

Frank

Does anyone know how big the motor in the o-8-0 starter set loco is?  As stated at the beginning, I need a small motor (the motor on the left in my original post at the head of this thread is exactly one inch long) - my goal is to fit a flywheel motor in a Superstreets vehicle taking no more room than the stock motor and the rectifier - by removing the rectifier and running on DC I free up about 1/2 behind it for the flywheel.

(I have a 0-8-0 starter set loco, I suppose I could take it apart to find out,  but)

Lee, Have you considered the Bachmann motor that I mention above? This is 1.22" long including the flywheel (Not including the worm and shaft.) Going on the details that you have posted, it sounded ideal.
