For those interested in making a test track so that the rollers can actually be used, check out the test track JohnS made by clicking on the link in his post.  I'm not going to duplicate his exactly, but his design is an excellent example of what's needed.

What do you mean by actually being used????

I meant that the rollers, by themselves, would not be convenient to use without a test track/fixture such as JohnS provided in his thread.  Did you have a different interpretation, Art?

3/14 edit:  Adding the 6/32 nuts to the bases of the rollers makes them much more stable on LIONEL 031 and Gargraves track.  See JohnS picture above.

I will have to wait until I receive them to determine.

Hi Carl,

Absolutely, yes I did!

The gentleman I spoke with was non-committal stating he would get back to me but did not specify a time - its been over 3 hours and they're probably closed by now.  The appropriate thing to do would be for them to adjust the freight but even if they don't; its still a great price!

If things change, I'll post more...

Thanks for asking,

Dave

I did call and inquire about the $26.55 default USPS shipping charge from New Jersey to Columbus, Ohio - seems SOMEWHAT extravagant!

Something's wrong when shipping to MN is less than shipping to OH from NJ!

OK, here's the follow-up I mentioned...

I recieved my 3 sets of Crest rollers Friday afternoon.  They look fine.  When I looked at the enclosed paperwork; there was no mention of a credit for the slightly elevated shipping cost of $26.55 to Columbus, Ohio.

So I called them as a reminder and the gentleman that I spoke with seemed to have been caught off-guard with my 2nd request for some sort of shipping refund based upon what others here on the forum have been charged and their distance from New Jersey.

I must tell you that the cost of shipping printed on the plain, brown cardboard box indicated $18.06 was paid to ship.  I was told that shipping was via USPS Priority but the brown box has me confused.  Its surprising that USPS Flat Rate packaging was not considered here...

I was told that I would receive a $6.00 credit and within 5 minutes, I recieved a confirming email.  That takes it down to $20.55.  They could have taken the rollers out of their "blister packs" and plopped them in a $5.95 flat rate box.  THAT would have made more sense economically.  Don't misunderstand me, I truly appreciate the stipend but $20 is still too high in my opinion.

Future buyers; here's you sign...

Best,

Dave

I got my set of 4 CREST rollers the other day and set out to build a stationary test track similar in design to the one JohnS posted in the other forum that is now for some reason gone missing.

With JohnS's design, you only need one set of rollers for even a large scale articulated and it's very stable and easy to build.

The cost was $45 with S/H to Alpharetta, GA.  I added another another $10 in wood and $10 in track and built the rig.  First thing I noticed is the CREST rollers fit the O gauge track a little too loose as noted by others here.  I added the recommend 6/32 hex nuts and that snugged the rollers to the rails on Fastrack, O27, and Atlas (all that I had available to test with).

If all you are going to do use the rollers by themselves, I highly recommend adding the 6/32 hex nuts to the bottom (4 per roller for a total of 16).

Here is a video of the final stationary test track I built which took me about 2 nights with glue drying time factored in.

HELP !!

A forum member posted photos of a stationary roller assembly he built for loco's that have a different numnber of drivers.  You could slide the platform in or out to fit a locomotive that had 8, 4, 3 or 2 drivers. Real cool !!!

But I can't find the post where this wood device was pictured.

Can someone find it for me?

Thanks so much!!

Hi i bought these  a couple of month ago they look perfect, just have not got around to making the piece to assemble them on as yet.

I did see these same crest rollers already assembled and the whole complete assembly for sale at the YORK TCA meet, they were selling them for any gauge and completely built for $150.00 per gauge!really looked nice and if your one of these people that aren't good as building things, then it might be worth it to purchase this assembly already built for you!

Carl,

Thank you for the good advice.  I was just going to wait until I had them in hand to figure out how I was going to secure them.
