4 of these showed up in a collection. 3 are in the tubes shown. Overall length is just short of 2". The larger OD part is cork with a brass tube running the hole length. The end of the tube is squashed a bit.
Steve: While I'm sure the items in your picture aren't the real thing, they look just like the wooden "smoke stack" cleaner that Lionel use to supply to tamp pill type smoke residue back down into the smoke unit to be re-melted and "smoked" again. Those original pieces were solid wood, but the shape looks to be about the same.
