Curious if anyone has researched the Former K-LINE 21" dome/ chair cars as well as Lionel's latest 21" dome cars to see if they are correct- esp in the window configuration. I see that both cars have full height windows under the dome section. This is incorrect if one is mimicking the Budd de car design however could be correct if one mimicks the Pullman steel design. Is this assumption correct or not?

k-Line cars were nice, and I have a lot of them. I would not have a K-Line dome car, because the dome itself is a toy. They did make some effort to get windows and interior correct, but in some cases they used the wrong extrusion and window height.
One thing is clear - they were a lot more accurate than the new Lionel 21" Daylight cars.
The Lionel 21" cars are supposed to look like Budd cars. In terms of window numbers and placement they do, but the contours of the cars just don't give the feel of a Budd product.
Pullman Domes usually had windows for a lower lounge under the dome:

Yeah the domes have more of a Pullman vibe. Budd cars don't drop down nearly that far, plus most if not all Budd domes had the compound-complex curved windows where most Pullman cars had the simpler (and a lot cheaper for real RRs) flat panes.
That brings up a question: it is my opinion that the 1950s Lionel Budd extrusion was close to scale in cross-section. The baggage car may have been exact. Why wouldn't they have used that cross section for a 21" car?
Clark Benson sold 21" Lionel extrusions back in the 1970s. They were perfect except for that lower letterboard, which has no prototype.
No - the K-Line dome is not accurate for either Pullman or Budd. For one thing, it is too small.

The only "Budd" dome to fully have flat panel glass was the Burlington's Silver Dome, which was built in the Burlington's Aurora, IL shops in June 1945 from a Budd flat roof coach.

Yes, it is the prototype Budd dome in more ways than one. But it was also the only Budd dome so configured.
And Will is correct, the Silver Dome started out as the Silver Alchemist. Appropriate because of the alchemy involved in making it a dome car.

Had to jump on those K-line 21 inch Amtrak cars! Aluminum passenger cars are hard to find and will be a great addition to my collection! I’ll probably upgrade the lights to LEDs.
